Something to Think About.

Growing up all of us had to deal with acne at one point or another, but what can you do about those terrible acne scars. First of all let me begin by saying that there are numerous types of treatments for acne scares. Emotionally the scars left behind by acne can really lower ones self esteem. Usually only severe acne leads to permanent scars.

One method of treatment that your doctor may choose is medication. Although you may only want to consider this as a last resort. You will probably have to take them daily for a designated period of time. Your regular doctor may recommend that you see a dermatologist for a consultation instead of just handing you a prescription. The dermatologist will determine if the condition is serious enough to warrant medication. Not all of the medications that are used to treat acne are oral; some come in the form of soaps, creams and even gels.

In order to determine what type of treatment you need, your dermatologist will first have to determine why types of scars you have. Believe it or not there are several different types. One scar is called the macules, and looks like red spots on your face. These types of scars will go away with just the help of some mild cream. There is another type of acne scarring known as post inflammatory pigmentation. This is a more severe form of acne scaring, and may require a chemical peel in order to remove it completely. There is also the option of laser treatment that can be used on some type of scarring. But if you do not want to be bothered with all of these options and complications, then it are best to take the necessary precautions early. If you treat your skin at the first sign of acne then you will be lest likely to have any scarring after the bumps go away. Take the time to talk to your doctor when you first start seeing acne or when your child first starts getting acne. They will be able to recommend non medicated creams that can help to prevent acne scars. Not only will it make life a lot easier on you or your teen but it will help to make your skin healthier.

One final point that you will want to take into consideration is makeup. Never use makeup to cover up acne or the scars. The best thing to do is to treat them, makeup will only make your skin worse and the scars will not go away. If you just can not go without wearing makeup speak to your dermatologist and they may be able to recommend some makeup that will not make your acne or the scaring worse.
